hare krishna mantra is easy to remember and to chant, so for the people of these times, who aren't very intelligent but forgetful it might be the best. and with this mantra we ask god to let us serve him, and serving is all what we have must do in this life.

The gayatri mantra is given by the spiritual master in iskcon at the second initiation and it is chanted three times a day at that point. Also the gayatri mantra can bring material things to you which is considered as temptation or unnecesarry when one is trying to be a servant of God.

Also dont forget that the iskcon line of disciplic succession (the only authentic line to krishna in kali yuga for the most part) is following after Lord Caitanya. Lord Caitanya advised we chant hare krishna to attain love of God!

You need gayatri Matra to understand vedas. The end of vedas is the Vedanta which says Chant the holy name of the lord Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

Because it is Krishna who gives you this knowledge. After all, guru is greater than even God.
