Why do counsellers state that they can not give advise, when this is what I am paying them for??

I fully believe it is because of legal and thats all!!!, Otherwise I am sure advise would flow like a riverWhy do counsellers state that they can not give advise, when this is what I am paying them for??
go see a different counselor who can help you...thats what i did now she actually gives me advice instead of saying ';hmmm...well...interesting'; all the timeWhy do counsellers state that they can not give advise, when this is what I am paying them for??
A good therapist will not tell you what to do with your life. The key is it is YOUR life. Giving advice is antithetical to therapy!

Giving advice robs you of your power to be in charge of your own life.

A good therapist or counsellor will help you sort it out, help you discover what you want to do, what stops you from doing it, what motivates you to take action, why doing that which you want to do is important for you, and will help you better understand the consequences of your actions.

Your mum, your friends, even strangers will tell you what to do. Its easy for them to made descisions about your life, they don't have to live with the aftermath.

In a nonjudgmental manner your therapist/counsellor will listen to you, and guide you to explore why something is important to you. They will help you accept, understand, and be responsible for the choices you make.

Now, isn't that more valuable than just being told what to do?!
the one counselor i had gave me a great advice when she recommended for me to move to another higher level class, which God saved me money and time.
