Before you ask about useful phrases, learn the 4 tones first. Learn to read pinyin, too.What are some useful phrases in Mandarin? What would you advise learning first?
Easily the most important are:
Bu Yao = I don't want. (It's not rude to refuse in this manner)
Duo shao (qian)? = How much(money)? (When asking the cost of items)
Hao = Good
Bu hao = Bad (never say this about someone's products, just stick to don't want)
Xie xie = Thank you.
As you can see Bu means no. Hao means good.
Numbers 1-10= Yi Er San Si Wu Liu Qi Ba Jiu Shi
10- 19 = shi yi, shi er, shi san.....shi jiu. Basically saying 10-1 , 10-2, 10-3.... and so on. Shi being 10 so we just say 10 plus smaller number.
Try picking up a few from the link, written in basic pinyin for you to learn, otherwise a small pocket phrasebook with Chinese characters allowing you to point to the Chinese is incredibly useful when first arriving.What are some useful phrases in Mandarin? What would you advise learning first?
