I would like to open a small bar in Valencia, Spain in September when i move there. My girlfriend lives there. How easy is this? what kind of money am i looking at? What can I do for finance?Any advise for opening a bar in Spain?
A good friend of mine has had several bars on the costa del sol for about 5 years now. This site may help you with guide price for property and leases. (i am not sure if it covers Valencia however) www.vivaestates.com
The bar trade can be very up and down, when the big football matches are on he can take 鈧?000 per night... but i have witnessed myself as being the best and only customer during some winter periods.
I think the lease to his first bar was approx 鈧?5K for 10 years, but when he sold that first bar i imagine he would have re-couped most of that.
There is obviously lots of red tape in starting a business in any country... your lawyer or ';Abogado'; should be able to guide you through most of this, clearly speaking spanish is of enormous benefit... In spain, ';stuff'; just gets done, when it gets done, there is no urgency in anything that occurs in spain to do with paperwork and red tape... Also you will need to get ';residentia'; and a social security number.
Having said all that, my friend has certainly enjoyed the last 5 years in southern spain. All the best to you in your new venture !Any advise for opening a bar in Spain?
Well, i'll come and work there for free for you!
How strong is your Catalan? I do not know the particulars of Spain and the Community of Valencia (that particular province). You will have to deal with not only the finances, but local government regulations, visas, property law, and a lot of stuff. I would contact some professionals in the country to find out what you are looking at.
Have a look at this article, it may give you some food for thought:-

Also if you are looking for finance then approach a Spanish bank for a mortgage, they are quite ready to lend to foreigners these days:-

Dont bother ..The only bars left for sale , are the ones that the spanish dont want...If it had any potential it would not be for sale, one of there family would have bought it... Speaking from experiance
